Silver :

Old English word 'seolfor' whose original meaning is now lost and with the current spelling "silver" known as early as 1478. It is related to the German 'silber' and the Dutch 'zilver'

Argent :

Greek 'ἄργυρος' (arguros) for silver metal, from 'ἀργός' (argos), 'brightness, whiteness, shining', as silver is the whitest of all metalsand then Latin 'argentum'
